Everlasting love

I know opinions about Valentine’s Day vary from one person to the next. I really struggled to write something about it in time for the biggest floral holiday of the year . . . but I just couldn’t seem to figure out exactly what I wanted to say.

Perhaps it is because so many sweethearts out there were looking forward to & expecting that traditional lush bouquet of fresh flowers on a mid-February day. Long stemmed roses, a couple dozen to be exact . . .

And as a seasonal flower grower, it’s bittersweet to have this Super Bowl of holidays land in the dead of winter.

Even with greenhouse structures and every farmer hack available, it’s simply not possible for me to offer fresh flowers in February, much less roses.

Even if I could have fresh blooms, I simply cannot compete with the truckloads of flowers shipped in from overseas.

But that’s okay, what I have to offer is something different. Something uncommon, but equally beautiful - a collection of dried flowers that came from my 2019 garden.

Each one intentionally hand sown from a tiny seed . . .

Nurtured, protected and lovingly grown . . .

Picked at its peak . . .

Perhaps it seems odd to give the one you love . . . dead flowers . . .

But if you’re thinking of the dingy dried flowers you’ve seen collecting dust on a shelf at your Grandma’s house, think again . . .

My dried flowers captured the essence of summer. Each petal frozen in time, but still extending the beautiful sunshine which brought it to life.

A little uncommon? Yes, I suppose. But for a love that is anything but ordinary, it fits.

They’re special.
