Frostmas - flowers in review
Well, we’ve had our first fall frost. It was a light one — but it still pretty much torched the whole garden.
Although it’s always a little sad to go from colorful beauty one day, to lifeless the next, that’s a central part of seasonality.
I’ll admit, I'm usually looking forward to Frostmas because it signals the slow season has arrived. Truth is, I haven’t been cutting the flowers the entire month of October, and just part of September.
I let the pollinators enjoy their drops of pollen, and for me, I enjoyed the flowers simply growing as I walked amongst them on my morning farm rounds.
I took tons of photos all season, and those images on the camera roll will get plenty of swipes through during the dark days of winter.
I’m posting a collection of them here to bookmark an otherwise awesome season of local blooms. It really is such a joy and labor of love to grow these flowers and deliver them each week to homes and businesses in Walla Walla and College Place.
I’m already sowing ideas for next year’s garden!
I’ve got nearly 30 peonies that will be maturing and providing lots of fragrant stems. Plus, I’ve got some new ranunculus bulbs on their way.
Thank you to the 2024 garden, and everyone who came to the farmer’s market to enjoy them.
And of course a big hug and thank you to my Bouquet Subscribers — for allowing me to bring the best of the garden to their home each week.
I’ll be launching the 2025 Bouquet Subscription options during the holidays, so keep your eyes peeled.
