Fresh flower care

The only real downside to fresh flowers is - they don’t last forever!

That said, I’ve done a few things to ensure you get the very most out of each bunch & every bouquet.

First, I’ve selected varieties that are suitable to be cut and enjoyed in the vase. Then, I harvest each variety at their optimal stage early in the morning while the day is still cool and comfortable.

Finally, after giving them big drink of fresh water and a night’s rest in the cooler, they’re fully hydrated & ready for you to enjoy!

Once you get them home, put them in a vase of fresh water.

The next day, follow these 3 simple tried & true methods at maximizing their vase life.

trimming stems

First, trim 1/4” off each stem with sharp snips or scissors.

Cut at an angle to allow the stem to easily drink up the water. Flat cuts allow the stem to rest entirely on the bottom of the vessel, effectively cutting off its ability to drink.

Second, fill a clean vase with fresh, cool water & sprinkle in a spoonful of flower food.

Finally, pop your flowers in the vase, keep them out of direct sunlight & enjoy!

Repeating these steps every few days will ensure you get the maximum time possible.

Many of my customers tell me they get to enjoy the whole bouquet for a full week, and often times, much longer! And many confess that they don’t even trim the stems or add any food. They simply change the water out every few days, and pull out the expired blooms as soon as they fade.

That’s just one of the many benefits to buying local flowers! Unlike their imported counterparts which are shipped out-of-water for several days - locally grown flowers don’t spend any time out of water. This means they naturally last a lot longer.
